KS2 Department 8-45am to 12 noon

It would be appreciated if children did not arrive at school before 8.30am, as we are concerned for their safety and we cannot accept responsibility for them. Doors will be opened at 8.35am in the Key Stage 1 department. Pupils in KS2 should remain in the school yard until 8.45 am where a member of staff will be on duty. The Headteacher Mrs. Sue Hopkinson and the Deputy Headteacher Mr. Matthew Winson are usually available to talk to parents. If they are unavailable please contact a member of the Senior Leadership Team: Mrs. Abi Thorlby, Mrs. Jane Farrell, Mrs. Linda Addis, Mrs. Sarah Stubbs.

No child will be allowed to leave the school premises during the school day without a written note from parents/guardians. Parents collecting children during lunchtime should report to the school office.

Would parents please phone the school as soon as possible to let us know if your child is not coming to school. If it is not possible to telephone, a letter on your child's return stating the reason for the absence is required and will avoid your child being marked as an unauthorised absence.
Children arriving after the registers have closed at 9.15 am may be marked as unauthorised absence unless we know the reason.

Dinner Money & Milk Money

Dinner Money

Dinner money for Autumn 09 first half-term is £67.32, whole term is £130.90. if paying by cheque, please make it payable to "Sheffield City Council" and write your bank card number on the back. If paying by cash, please put dinner money in an envelope with your child's name and class on it and hand it to the class teacher on Monday mornings. It is appreciated if dinner money can be sent to school on the first day back after the holidays. if you are changing your child's lunch arrangements for the next half term, please inform Mrs. Forsythe, our Primary School Assistant, or Mrs Clark as soon as possible.
Mrs Clark can be found on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the main school office, and is happy to deal with and dinner/milk money queries.

Please note, that unless your child is experiencing difficulties with their lunch arrangements, it would greatly assist administration and planning if your child did not change from packed lunch to hot dinners or visa-versa mid half term We have had many instances last half term whereby teachers were not told that children were bringing a packed lunch instead of taking their usual hot meal and so a school meal was ordered for them. In these circumstances, it is LEA policy that such school meals must be paid for as they have been cooked.

Milk money

The cost of milk for the Autumn term will be £9.80. If you would like your child to have milk next term please send your remittance to the School Office as soon as possible It is the LEA policy that school may only order milk for children who have paid their milk money. Therefore, due to the administrative procedures involved, if you would like your child to have milk this term it is important that you send your child's milk money by this date.
If we do not receive payment, we will assume that you do not wish your child to have milk and it will not be ordered for him/her.
Please send the money in a sealed envelope bearing your child's name and class. If you wish to pay by cheque, please make your cheque payable to "Sheffield City Council".

Dore Parents Association
The DPA exists to help Dore Primary School in whatever way it can. All parents of children at the school are automatically members of the DPA and are invited to join its activities (e.g. Quiz Nights, Visits, Dances), which are organised by a committee of members.
Details of activities are available on the DPA section of the parents notice-board in the main entrance hall, and are circulated in the regular DPA Newsletters
There is a link to their website in our 'Web Sites' section. Click on school links once you are there.

Car Parking
Could you please note that the school car park is only for the use of staff and official visitors. and not to drop off/pick up children either for school or for Kingswood nursery. This is to ensure the safety of our children. Also car parking on the key stage two playground is not permitted. Please do not let children walk across the car park. Children need to use the paths around school to get to their entrance.

If a child is brought to school by car, parents are requested to stop at a safe distance from the yellow zig-zags on Furniss Avenue, and park on the school side of the road to avoid congestion.

Leave of Absence & Sheffield Authorised Pass Scheme
Please note that school can only authorise 10 days absence for family holidays within term time. Only in exceptional circumstances will further leave be granted. Parents are asked to complete a blue Leave of Absence Form, copies of which can be found in the main entrance hall, on the Parents' Notice Board or from Mrs Forsyth in the school office. All letters concerning absence should be sent to the Headteacher. Please note that the Governing Body have made the decision that the Headteacher may not authorise any planned absence up to the end of the first complete school week in September or during the 2 weeks of formal assessment during January and May.

If you will be taking your child out of school for any reason e.g. hospital/dental appointment, music exam, please see Mrs Davis or Mrs Gleadhill for an Authorised Absence Pass.

Medicines

Please note that only medicine prescribed for Asthma, Diabetes and Epilepsy will be administered in school. These medicines need to be given to the Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher. No other medicines should be given to children. If your child has a medical condition which requires special attention or medication e.g. asthma please notify school as soon as possible.

If your child is prescribed anti-biotics please ask the GP for a dosage that can be administered wherever possible outside school hours - before school, straight after school and at bed-time.

If it is absolutely necessary for your child to take medicine at school it is essential that an adult personally hands in the medicine at the school office and signs the official medication form. PLEASE SEE THE ADMINISTERING MEDICINES POLICY.  It is essential that children do not carry medicine themselves or store it in school. Class teachers are unable to assist children - designated adults only may deal with medicine.

Parental Consent for School Visits
It is important that if school asks parents for permission to take your child out of school for any reason, for example for a sporting fixture or an educational visit, that the parental consent form is signed and returned to the class teacher. Children will not be allowed to participate in these events if parental consent is not obtained in writing. In the Letters section of the website, there is a generic form that could be used if your child forgets or loses the original letter, Back to top
Change of address/contact telephone numbers
We sometimes have difficulty contacting parents who have changed their address or emergency telephone numbers, without informing school. If you do change address or have a new daytime telephone number e.g. new place of work or child care arrangements, please inform school immediately. It is important Back to top
Telephone enquiries
We have two telephone lines coming into the main office, and the configuration of such is that when one line is engaged, then the other line will ring until it is answered. Please accept our apologies if you are left waiting for the phone to be answered, but we are sure you will appreciate that the school office can be very busy at times.

Please note that only urgent messages can be given to pupils

PGCE & SCITT Placements
SCITT
If you are looking to train through the Scitt (School Centred Initial Teacher Training)scheme in 2010 - 2011 you should contact Nottingham University and apply through them.
Interviews for placements are conducted by Nottingham University and successful candidates are refered to school, where a second infomal interview takes place. We usually have placements available in both Key Stages. Contact the SCITT co-ordinator, Mrs Addis, in school for further information.

PGCE
We are unable to host PGCE students who require work experience during the month of September as this is an important time of induction and preparation for our own SCITT students.  If you would like school experience at Dore at a later date, please send a copy of your CV and an introductory letter to Mr. Matthew Winson who is the DH and the Lead ITT Mentor.  Your letter should state your previous school experience and/or of working with children. It should also tell us what you hope to gain from the experience here and of anything you can contribute to the school whilst you are with us.  Your information will then be circulated amongst the staff who may then be able to offer you a placement.
