Sporting Achievement

Sport England - Activemark

We are proud to announce that Dore Primary School has been awarded a prestigious national award by Sport England. Activemark is a national accreditation programme which recognises schools that show commitment to promoting the benefits of physical activity.
To achieve the award a school must offer a well balanced physical education programme, provide an environment that encourages physical activity and teach children the importance of staying active for life.
We are one of only one hundred primary schools in the country to be presented with this award in recognition of our 'outstanding committment to physical activity'. Our PE Co-ordinator, Chris Stewart is delighted with the award. He says "Our aim is to ensure that physical activity has a high profile throughout the school and that our pupils have the opportunity to be physically active both within the curriculum and out of school hours."
"In addition to the more popular sports such a sfootball, cricket and athletics, our pupils are given the opportunity to try a real variety of sports such as skiing, fencing and Australian Rules Football. We feel this creates a high level of interest and enables more pupils to reap the benefits of physical activity."

Table Tennis

At Dore Primary School we have after school table tennis club on Mondays and Fridays. On Mondays it is for beginners and on Fridays, more advanced players attend. Year groups take it in turns to have coaching on Friday afternoons. Our coach is Shaun Alvey, the Great British disabled champion.
The school applied to the British Sports Council for a grant for some new table tennis equipment. We were given a total of £4,000 and with the money we bought 5 new table tennis tables. We also bought a new supply of balls, some bats and a robot which, sends balls down at varying speeds.
The school also has a table tennis squad, which entered into the South Yorkshire table Tennis competition. They won the competition and are now South Yorkshire Under 11 Champions. They then entered the Under 11s competition for the whole of the Yorkshire region and came third. Very well done.

The team was: Michael L, Tom H, Alex V, Alex T and Andrew T.
Pictured above is Kristian who entered a squash competition at Abbeydale Park Squash club. He came second in the competition. Well done.
