During the last week of last half term, Y1’s visited Build-A Bear workshop in Meadowhall to make our class teddies. During the whole term, we have been looking at the topic of toys and we wanted to know just how teddies were made.
When we got to Build-A-Bear we were told all about the shop and what we were going to do. We had to choose a bear, which was in itself a very hard choice as they had so many, and then stuff it full of Bear porridge (stuffing). We then had to fill it with love, friendship, hugs and kisses and each child (and the teachers) got to put a heart in to it. Next came the important part! We had to decide whether it was a boy or a girl and what it was to be called. In due course, two bears appeared; one named Alex (Y1L) and one named Oscar (Y1S).
Once this had been decided it was off on a shopping spree to clothe the ‘bare bear!’ We were allowed to pick one outfit to dress our new bear in and we found it very difficult to choose because there were so many beautiful outfits for the bears. Eventually Oscar was given a brand new set of dinosaur pyjamas and slippers and Alex was dressed in a very snazzy golf outfit with a fabulous pair of trainers. We then had to get them ready to take home by fluffing, washing and preening them. Once this had been done we dressed them and were given a birth certificate which told us who he belonged to.
Finally, after a very hectic morning, we had to pledge that we were going to take these bears home and look after them, which everyone in the room said with gusto and we were very pleased and proud to welcome these two new members in to Y1!
