Tudor Times

This term all the Year 4 children have been studying the Tudors as part of our History Curriculum. In order to enrich our work we organised ‘Tudor Times ~ All Day Living History Workshops’ to come to school. The leader during the day was Mr. R. Leedham, who latterly was the Property Master for The Royal Shakespeare Company.

During the course of the day the children had the opportunity to:

  • learn about what life for a rich Elizabethan lady and a middle-class yeoman would have been like
  • dress-up
  • sample food as it would have been prepared in Tudor times
  • listen to unusual facts about Tudor kings and queens
  • handle artefacts
  • enjoy an Elizabethan play and take part in a quiz!
  • Take part in a mock Tudor soldier’s pike drill and
  • Watch a musket being loaded with gunpowder and then fired! Boom!

We all had a marvellous day. One child remarked to ‘Grumpy Old Bob’ that it was the best day at school that he had ever had! It doesn’t get better than that!
